How to use data, talk, and text internationally

  • To use cellular data, make sure Data Roaming is turned on and airplane mode is off in your device settings.
  • To call or send a message to the U.S., press +1 followed by the 10-digit number. The + sign usually appears if you press and hold the 0 key on your dial pad.
  • To call or send a message to another country, press + (country code) followed by the local phone number.
  • Some devices have settings that automatically add the correct prefix or country code when you’re calling numbers in your contacts. For iOS, turn on Dial Assist in your device Settings.

Get the most value with International Day Pass

Add AT&T International Day Pass®1 and you can use your phone in over 210 destinations, on select international flights, and on over 400 cruise ships. You’ll be charged $12 per 24 hours on land and air, and $20 per 24 hours at sea for each day that you use your phone.

  • Use your domestic data plan to email, use maps, convert currency, and more. At sea, after 500MB of data use within a 24-hour period, data speeds may be reduced to a maximum of 512Kbps on certain ships. The highest available data speed will be restored at the beginning of the next 24-hour period.
  • Use your domestic talk plan. You can receive calls, make unlimited calls back to the U.S., to the destination you’re in, and to destinations included in International Day Pass. Calls to other destinations also include an International Long Distance charge.
  • Send unlimited texts to the world. Texts received are rated as domestic and don’t charge a daily fee.
