Set up voicemail and record a greeting

Learn how to set up your AT&T digital phone voicemail box and record a personal greeting.


Online portal

AT&T Phone – Advanced

  1. Go to the AT&T phone portal. Sign in with your member ID.
  2. Select Voicemail Settings then toggle Voicemail On.
  3. Select Launch voicemail setup.
  4. Follow the prompts to set up your voicemail inbox. If you opt to set your voicemail security settings to Medium or High, you can set your PIN in the online portal or using your handset when you record your voicemail greeting.

AT&T Phone

  1. Go to your myAT&T account overview. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Select the AT&T Phone card.
  3. Under Phone number, choose the account and phone number that you want to set up voicemail for.
  4. Select Voicemail and then Launch voicemail setup.
  5. Follow the prompts to set up your voicemail inbox. If you opt to set your voicemail security settings to Medium or High, you can set your PIN in the online portal or using your handset when you record your voicemail greeting.

To record your voicemail greeting, press *98 on your phone’s handset.

  1. If you selected security settings that require a voicemail PIN and haven’t already set up your voicemail PIN in the portal, you’ll do that now. Choose a Personal Identification Number (PIN) between 6 and 10 digits. Be sure to use a PIN that you’ll remember.
  2. Follow the instructions and set up your 8-digit authentication code. You’ll use this code if you forget your voicemail PIN and need to reset it. If you write it down, be sure to store it somewhere safe.
  3. Say your name after the tone when prompted, and press #.
    • To save, press 1.
    • To record again, press 2.
  4. Follow the prompts to record a personal greeting. You can use a pre-recorded system greeting.

You can now use your voicemail. Use the authentication code if you forget your PIN or when you need to reset your PIN.

Phone handset

  1. Press *98 from your home phone.
  2. Choose a Personal Identification Number (PIN) between 6 and 10 digits. Be sure to use a PIN that you’ll remember.
    • Enter your PIN followed by the # sign.
    • Re-enter your PIN followed by the # sign.
  3. Follow the instructions and set up your 8-digit authentication code. You’ll use this code if you forget your voicemail PIN and need to reset it. If you write it down, be sure to store it somewhere safe.
  4. Say your name after the tone when prompted, and press #.
    • To save, press 1.
    • To record again, press 2.
  5. Follow the prompts to record a personal greeting. You can use a pre-recorded system greeting.

You can now use your voicemail. Use the authentication code if you forget your PIN or when you need to reset your PIN.
